FMF Cape Breton Phase IV and CFB Base Fire Hall
Working with Lockerbie & Hole Contracting, Playsted Sheet Metal completed work at CFB Esquimalt on two projects: FMF Cape Breton Phase IV and the Base Fire Hall and Emergency Response Centre. These two bonded projects had ventilation contracts valued at over $6M and were constructed concurrently, with completion in the spring of 2013. Foremen Glen Ferguson (Cape Breton) and Mark Stevens (Fire Hall) lead teams of up to 7 sheet metal workers on each site. As with any public project, these jobs required the highest level of quality control and the need to solve many unique installation requirements. Several highlights of these projects include:
- Using a helicopter to lift air handling units
- Installing long runs of 48″ perforated spiral from JLG lifts
- Seismically bracing ductwork in post-disaster buildings
- Coordinating specialized PVC sub-trades from out of country
- Installation of exposed, welded S/S spiral for vehicle exhaust extraction
